IRAC's Legal Department has been at the forefront of the organization's activities for over 30 years. Its activities range from reviewing legislation for potential human rights violations, petitioning the courts on matters of discrimination, and assisting dozens of congregations across Israel with varying legal matters. The Legal Department is made up of four attorneys, each specializing in a different area of IRAC's core activities. The political and social implications of the department's work are tremendous and affect not only the current social texture of Israel but will affect civic life in Israel for decades to come.
Thanks to the partnership and generosity of David and Debbie Astrove and the Chaiken Family Foundation, two of the four attorneys in the legal department are Tzedek Tzedek Tirdof Attorneys. These lawyers follow the tenet set by the verse, “Tzedek Tzedek Tirdof - Justice justice you shall pursue”, central to IRAC’s mission, to advance religious pluralism and break the ultra-Orthodox monopoly over religious life in Israel.
