Strengthening Israel’s Democracy
IRAC views with great concern the recent onslaught of legislative initiatives that weaken Israeli democracy, and works to fend off attempts intended to curtail the activities of human rights organizations, damage the status or rights of the country’s Arab minority, restrict the authority of the Supreme Court, and harm freedom of expression and pluralism. IRAC will continue to act against and attempt to prevent the passage of anti-democratic legislation.
We continue to lead the battle against the Nation-State bill, hoping to change the language of the law to include the value of equality and abolish the prejudicial clauses. We also work to combat the imbalanced and unjust power over the government and Israeli society that the Orthodox Rabbinate holds. Israel’s most fundamental laws establish it as a democratic country that must not tolerate inequality or discrimination, so IRAC will continue to take action to eliminate every obstacle to Israel becoming a truly equal and democratic society.
