Religious Action Center Fellowship in Israel 2010-2011

The Israel Religious Action Center in Jerusalem, in partnership with the Religious Action Center in Washington, D.C., is looking for a talented North American recent college graduate interested in spending 10 months working for Israel’s second largest civil rights organization. The RAC Fellowship in Israel provides an opportunity to work at the Israel Religious Action Center, where he/she will learn about many of the challenges facing Israel today and take an active role in IRAC’s efforts to build a more tolerant, just and pluralistic Israeli society.

The Fellow will be an integral staff person responsible for communicating IRAC’s vision and current activities to the Diaspora by writing and producing IRAC’s newsletters and press releases, as well as managing IRAC's English website. The website includes petitions and letter writing campaigns, blogs, issue papers, and an immense amount of information on IRAC's current and past legal and advocacy work. The Fellow ideally serves as a bridge between IRAC and the Diaspora Jewish community, sharing information from Jerusalem and providing opportunities for others to get involved.

The RAC Fellow in Israel will work in the Development and Communications Department of IRAC. In addition to learning about the compelling issues on IRAC’s legal and advocacy agenda, the Fellow will also be trained in basic nonprofit management such that he or she will have sufficient experience to work in a social justice NGO or other Jewish organization following the Fellowship.

The Fellowship lasts for 10 months, from September through June. The Fellow will work from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., five days a week or whenever the IRAC offices are open. The Fellow will be provided with a monthly stipend of $1,000.  While housing will not be provided, we will offer guidance to living in Jerusalem. In addition, the Fellow can be matched with a Reform family in the local Jewish community where they can spend some Shabbat evenings and holidays.

The Fellow will also have the opportunity to observe IRAC’s lawyers arguing in the Supreme Court, lobbying in the Knesset, and hosting press conferences. The IRAC Fellow will also be able to volunteer with Keren B’Kavod, the humanitarian aid project of IRAC.

Thank you for your interest in the RAC Fellowship in Israel.  Applications are due by April 30, 2010, for notification by mid-May. Please contact us for the application or for more information.
